Manufactured in Birmingham by the eponymous Memlight (Midland Electrical Manufacturing). The Memlite range was developed to aid the war effort in Britain and became a ubiquitous product in workshops and factories right through to recent years. This example is an uncommon desk or workbench model produced in the '40s and '50s and was salvaged from a small toolmaking shop in south Wales.
We have very gently refurbished the lamp with new, correct, fabric covered cable, a new Bakelite bulbholder, a replacement switch and, even, a refurbished Bakelite plug. The charcoal grey/ black paint has merely been cleaned and polished. Altogether, as good as it gets for a lamp of this age and history.
