This striking lamp is of a neoclassical style and features a series of gadrooned curves. First developed in the 18th century following the discoveries at Pompeii, Neoclassicism went on to resurface numerous times to the present day. Neo- or Classic Revival design mimicked the ideals of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Rather than heaping detail upon detail, Classic Revival fixtures pick an element - be it the curve of an elegant shade holder or an acanthus leaf motif - and emphasize it with a simplicity of design.
